All About Us

A Space Outside is a collective formed to organize a convergence and
accommodation space, interactions with radical thinkers, practical direct
action skill-shares, and most importantly radical actions and
interruptions to the 2006 G20 meeting in Melbourne.

In the lead up to the G20 fiasco in Melbourne, A Space Outside will be
providing a space in which to workshop new ways of resisting and
disrupting the influence and trajectory of capital and hegemony. This will
be a space from which to collectivise and activate; a physical space from
which to orchestrate the bothering of the status quo. A space that is
radically different from, and beyond the control of dominant society where
we can think freely and plan ways of increasing our capacity to resist
beyond the G20 mobilisation. Not just A Space Outside, but a space from
which to actively resist within.

We are inviting people to come and stay, and to organise radical responses
to the current political climate.

Militarism, the war on terror, the privatisation of public spaces, and the
neoliberalisation of Australian Universities are provoking activist
responses and campaigns, but are also disturbing our capacity to challenge
these issues. We want to learn more about these political issues, and
reflect on our methods and strategies for dealing with them. To critically
examine governments’ linking of aid and development objectives with
military strategic and economic aims and the work of development and aid
NGOs who fail to effectively critique governments’ imperialist agendas.

We are asking for people to come and share their skills, their art and
their politics.
